P is for freedom

Who would have thought this one little letter could mean so much? My 17 year old son just got his P plates yesterday. He can now drive by himself without me holding his hand - watch out world. Feeling a weird about it all - sometimes the world just whizzes around me.

Inspired by Coco

Audrey Tautou as Coco Avant Chanel

Last night we went to the Movie Coco Avant Chanel - It was a beautiful story depicting the life of the wonderful - fearless French designer who defied circumstance and prejudice. She showed a wonderful insight as she pioneered into the world of fashion changing it indefinitely. Audrey Tautou was a fantastic choice for the role - playing a beautiful - understated Chanel. I would recommend this to anyone - a designers idol on sceeen.

Letting go

I am learning to let go and when i do - somehow it all works. My little red cape can sometimes be so firm around my shoulders and sometimes when I let it go - things happen.
Today I let go.

Tantalising Tulips

flowers for home

I do love Tulips. I love the way they continue to grow and live, searching for the light. Did you know that about tulips?
I used them here in a left over posy for home and they are growing as I write. Lovely.

Heavenly hairclet

Hair Circlet

I'm not tooting my own trumpet but I was rather proud of my efforts here - we had an hour to complete it - mine took much longer as I really wanted to create something a little more than just carnations, somehow mixing the Singapore orchids and the ivy made it softer - lovely for a little bridesmaid to wear.

Blooming good!

Symmetrical bowl
Sitting in the perfect spot

A long stemmed straussed bouquet!
would you buy it?

Looking professional

an iris meant to be a rose
it really does look like a Fleur de Lyss.

Practise really does make perfect. Understanding this process has been good. I don't have to be "there" yet. I am being kinder to myself these days and enjoying the ride. Yesterday was fun - we learned to wrap beautifully with a hint of flair and posy bowls in strange shapes which I thought were somehow "old fashioned" and not in a vintage way. Looking at my effort I think it has my flair and not old fashioned at all. I liked the process and thinking outside the square or rather inside the triangle.

Always changing and rearranging

Today I felt it was time for a change of template. I am inspired by the beautiful blogs around. I still haven't figured out completely how to customise but I am learning as I go. Welcome to my new look, and daffodils . It's raining outside so we need some sun inside - I might go searching for some today. Wish me luck.

A day of rest

Sundays are meant for that aren't they? Resting doesn't have to mean doing nothing - for me it just means nothing urgent. I can just do things at my leisure with no pressure attached.
I like that thought. Today I did just that - soup is made, muffins are cooling, so is spinach pie, music is playing and the candles are making me feel warm...

I think I can - I know I can

Pretty in Pink

A budding florist!

I got to practise! Not the best subjects as I was to find out - droopy tulips and camelia -grr.
Still I was really happy with the result! I liked the way they sat in this nest of greenery.
Meagan said they were lovely - "would you like to take them home?" - " Yes please!"
- I guess not quite good enough for the shop yet.

A day at the office

Perfectly Pink!
One day
It all works!
On Wednesday I had the opportunity to work in one of the Pearsons Florist stores in the city.
What an experience. Even though it's usually quiet it was a buzz with activity and I was taking it all in. I didn't mind cleaning vases - just seemed part of the day. I felt so lucky to be able to watch the process of it all happening - I almost felt like a florist dressed in black with my apron on.

Simple things

It is often the simple things that bring you closer to that feeling of home. Winter brings with it the sense of cuddling up, hibernating a little.  An arrangement doesn't always have to have flowers in it - simple fruit and candles create that special "feeling" - making me feel like here is where I want to be.

Flowers for a friend

The best part of creating something is giving it away. I made this design myself after visiting the markets. It was a joy to pick the flowers and see it all come together.

Wedding bells are ringing

My first two attempts at wiring. The first being a fully wired buttonhole - careful to hide the mechanics! The 2nd design - a corsage suited for the Mother of the bride. It is hand tied and a faster style. I really enjoyed this process.

Highlights so far and first impressions

First hand at a straussed bouquet!
I'm going to bring you up to speed and show some highlights from the last few weeks.

The First

3rd Posy bowl

After being inspired by many an avid blogger I have finally decided to make my own space. I seem to blog this and that all over the net but never in one sole spot. Here goes. I'm Sue a 40- something- or prefer to be thought of in my 20's for the 2nd time - living with gorgeous hubby and 3 marvellous teenagers in Sydney. I'm Originally a kiwi and have decided to cross the brave frontier once again into a new career world - wow. I have always been interested in Floristry and thought I would finally bite the bullet and do a fast tracked course for a year with Pearson's school of floristry. So far I am loving the roller coaster ride. Some days I feel completely like a fish out of water. I am slowly dipping my toes in and having a good go. Somethings work, some don't I am learning this, for this class A perfectionist it is a difficult one but the present moment is what I seek( shades of Yoda coming in there). " There is no try only do!" Like the little engine the could
I will continue to chug up the hill using every plagiarism I can along the way - thank you friends.
Above is the latest creation from my course. I was happy with this although had a doozey of a day with cutting my finger and not being happy with my other efforts. This is the one I got to take home and all in all I was happy.
