The F word!

A close look
I really like this arrangement - especially the do-dovine draping over it. Shame no one is coming for tea!
An open spray for a casket. The mechanics are apparent but we were just looking for the over all shape.

A flat backed bouquet.
Maybe not what you think as this is a pretty G rated blog. F is for Funeral work. Something I am not sure if I was looking forward to at our course but I was pleasantly surprised with the progress and outcome of our creations. Here are just a few shots of the examples.
It was quite weird going back to college after my work experience. I found myself comparing myself once again with my classmates. They are all fantastic and will make wonderful florists. I would buy from many of them. I am also surprised by the fact that we all have the same bucket of flowers and design concepts and yet the end results are completely different. It just goes to show it is not paint by numbers.
There is a little piece of every florist in their work.

A Post without a picture

Something sweet - the delightful sweetpea - my flower of the moment

Sometimes the memory has to surfice and today was one of those days. I had great intentions of photos galore today but was over run by orders. I am pooped and nothing that a little glass of something won't fix. I had a day at the office today and what a place to work. I love it - being surrounded by flowers. 8 orders later and I was and am still loving it. To say I am being stretched is an understatement. I often look at something I have made and think " Is it ok? Are there enough flowers? Will they love it?" I hope and pray they do. It is hard to know in floristry as orders often come and are send without the sender seeing it. I suppose no news is good news some days but to hear feedback helps. I did get some lovely feedback today. Just as my head was spinning a little at the thought of doing 6 arrangements and the shop a godsend arrived in the shape of one of my Bosses friends - Kathy! Wow what a lovely soul. She just did everything I couldn't or hadn't been able to do and I was blessed. She answered phones, tidied, swept and cut flowers but most of all she gushed over the arrangements and bouquets I had made. She also delivered them which was a great help! I do feel blessed today. Mr Sooz came in to see me too - lovely to see my man in the day. We had a coffee and a chat while I arranged. I really cannot believe that I am doing this - perhaps I should pinch myself.
Tomorrow is College and back to the books. I am looking forward to not learning in a vacuum anymore but actually seeing sense in the madness. It is funerals tomorrow. A part of life and especially for a florist.
Wish I had my camera is I really did like some of the things I made today. It will have to wait for another day.
Hope all of yours were wonderful

Postcards from Paris

Fleurs in Paris!
Champs Elysee
Tour de Eiffel
'The dying Slave' - my favourite piece of art at the Louvre
My Room with a view
Picture Perfect Bistro!

Not missing the obvious
Bon Jour!
Not every blog I write is about flowers - in fact yes at the moment one of my first loves but my other would have to be anything French. In Feb of 2008 I got to live my life long dream to travel to the beautiful city of Paris. I was my on my own but it was still a wonderful time. It lived up to every expectation so much so that I brought my hubby back to see it all in December for our 20th wedding anniversary.
I still love to glimpse back at these moments in time. I just had to blog these fleeting thoughts this morning as today I am thinking of Paris.

Shameless Promotion

I couldn't resist grabbing this little cake off my friend's blog. It is so perfectly pretty and has flowers on it doesn't it. She has just started up a business - please go take a peek for yourselves. You will be delighted at the delicious morsels she creates. She makes EVERYTHING from scratch.

In Memory of Little Jasper

My daughter has been down on a farm for the week with her best friend. I called her the other day to see how she was, she was ecstatic as she had just seen a little lamb born. It was very tiny and probably premature. My daughter and her friend cared for the little lamb making sure it was getting food. The poor little thing was very dehydrated and didn't have the strength to feed from it's Mummy.
I called last night to see how the little one was doing - "Jasper" passed away today Mummy".
my daughters voice shakily spoke into the phone - " he was drinking and then took his last breath and closed his eyes - we buried him and gave him a funeral. "

The lessons of life seen from fresh eyes. R.I.P. Little Jasper.

Isaiah 40:11) He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Happy Birthday

My darling - it's your birthday today. Happy birthday dear one. Thank you for all you do and I hope you have a wonderful year. I love chatting away any moment with you - this morning was no exception. We chatted about - birthdays, how when we were 'young' - we couldn't wait to get older - now we are older - hmmm. I still think birthdays should be celebrated - I hope you get the chance to feel special today. You deserve to be KING. Every day with you is a celebration and an adventure. I love being in your life and I love you being in mine. You are my world.

Thank you orange!

Inspiration from flowerwildevents.

I worked in the shop today. Through out the day enjoying the day I realised how much I enjoy orange in an arrangement. It's so often ignored or maybe even hated and I really like orange. It compliments and warms a piece or arrangement straight away. It can be soften or complimented beautifully with what is around it. A little bit of sunshine was in the shop today.

Today in the shop

Beautiful Rose
Astros never looked so pretty
A "parrot " tulip - simply stunning
Some thing in sympathy for someone else - I do hope they like it
Wow - today in the shop - the hustle and bustle and then finally just me to my lil old self.
Today I arranged, designed and basically had a ball. I sent out an order for someone - still worried that it was OK but I need to get over this one.
I also made some flowers for someone who forget to come back and so I took them home. They are smiling at me in my kitchen.
I took some photos as sometimes it is easy to miss the little things.

Opportunity knocks

Sometimes opportunity knocks quietly and sometimes it pounds. A quiet opportunity came to my door this week and I opened it.
I am now doing work experience at Coogee Florist for one day a week indefinitely. This could move into paid duties but we won't count those chickies just yet. I even had a delivery - whizzing around Sydney CBD and being on city ranger alert.
Wednesdays are going to be my Work experience day so I will look forward to it :). This is really happening.

Did little Red riding hood like orange?

A modern design of leftovers
the "modern design" grows I love this about flowers - every changing

This week we made a few different designs - baskets being one of them - in lovely shades of orange. Miss Pickering - in one of her inspiring blogs the other day had something to say about orange - no orange I hear her clients say and yet. I have come to realise I really don't mind orange. I really don't mind baskets either . We didn't want to use our flowers from them - instead we used leftovers to make a modern design. Not sure what I think.
I wonder if Grandma would like this.

Assessment is here- again

Another piece for the piano - triangular posies just seem to sit there nicely . I don't know if this is a process I love - but I believe it is the basis for so much and a florist said to me this week - If you can do this - you can do anything! " Well I can do it but hmm - I will wait and see.
Pleased with the results of my assessments. I seem to be doing this - 1 term almost down - 3 to go.
